Power of Music
Exciting new research shows that music has the power to heal. Music therapy is now being used to treat asthma, Alzheimer's disease, depression and other illnesses. Music also helps reduce stress and anxiety. In fact, live music is being used in some oncology waiting rooms as a way to create a calming environment for patients.

Expansion Update
Healing Through Guitars is looking to expand its reach. Caroline presented a proposal to the Burlingame City Council encouraging the City to use its existing communication channels to connect volunteer musicians with local senior care communities.
The proposal recommends:
-
Adding a volunteer musician page to the Burlingame Parks & Recreation website listing senior communities that welcome live music volunteers.
-
Promoting these volunteer opportunities through the City's newsletter, Gazette, and social media channels.
-
Working with the Parks & Recreation Department to make volunteer music a lasting part of the City's senior outreach efforts.
The proposal requires no new funding or staff, only better awareness and coordination. By making it easier for musicians to find places to volunteer, Healing Through Guitars hopes to inspire more performances and bring the healing power of live music to even more seniors throughout the community.
831/26 We are working with Burlingame Parks and Recreation to modify the outreach plans to fit the new city
city guidelines. The goal is to have the plan implemented before December so musicians can fill the senior communities with holiday music.
